“It’s Only Weird if it Doesn’t Work”. This is the 2nd NFL season this commercial has been reverberating through millions of homes.
Mis-matched socks, assigned seating, assorted rituals and talismans, and of course the dreaded QUINOA BURGER. And “Fear the Beard” was the mantra as the un-shaven Boston Red Sox rolled on to win the 2013 World Series.
Sports superstitions aren’t logical. But “it’s only weird if it doesn’t work” is the perfect defense of the seemingly illogical, to non-believers.
Kind of the same challenge home staging and home stagers face. Except OH WAIT NAR (National Association of Realtors) reports on its members’ successes regularly!
Real Estate will always be a gamble.
When TRH launched in 2007, home staging in Westchester County was largely known as cable entertainment. The market was hot, and the romance of fixer-uppers had not totally faded.
The housing bubble burst shortly afterward, and the tide changed swiftly. The learning curve was steep, the naysayers were loud and cranky, and “weird” was one of their nicer characterizations. But it was a great opportunity to craft a business model, and accumulate success stories.
I will admit to owning Lucky Socks (literally, they say ‘My Lucky Socks’!) because I like to smile, and have a good time with clients, but attribute very little to luck.
Even if it sounds weird, everything I advise homeowners on is rooted in training, experience, and results.
I am the only home stager in Westchester County with instructor credentials in both professional (RESAPro) staging and (NYSAR) real estate. And the only one who takes ongoing CE in design (ASID member) as well as for staging and real estate.
And to date, over $750M worth of The Refreshed Home’s staged Westchester County properties have been sold.
